4AI Systems’ CTO, Mark Wood travelled the globe in March to showcase our advanced, network-centric automatic train protection technology to improve situational awareness.
First was Railway Age’s Next-Generation Freight Rail conference on 11 March in Chicago, where Mark presented an Innovation Showcase on EN4CER, 4AI Systems’ suite of onboard systems for automatic train protection. This solution works by checking operation against what is allowed for any given track section, based on sensor calculations for location and speed.
HORUS, our onboard vision and sensor perception and warning system, complements EN4CER and together they act as a fully onboard advanced driver advisory system with automated brake enforcement capabilities.
Next was the Heavy Haul Rail conference in Perth on 26-27 March. Mark co-presented with Robert Shaw from Pacific National on our recent collaboration to assess this emerging driver advisory technology on Queensland’s North Coast Line.
Pacific National is trialling the use of in-cab AI technology developed by 4AI Systems on one of their intermodal trains to capture real-time data and enhance situational awareness. The system is also capable of performing warnings for level crossings, changed speed controls, objects detected on the track, or anomalies in track infrastructure.
The system and driver machine interface has received positive feedback from train drivers participating in the trial. Testing will continue throughout 2025 and we look forward to sharing further results with the industry.
