It was a day of innovation, collaboration and inspiration at the RoboCup Junior Hunter Regional competition, sponsored by 4AI Systems. A remarkable 213 students from 16 schools, double the registrations of last year’s event, travelled from as far as Inverell and Sydney to participate at the University of Newcastle’s Great Hall on the 31st of July.
Bringing STEM education to life, the annual event sees students compete in robotics obstacles across various leagues, including Rescue Line, Rescue Maze, OnStage and Soccer. The energy in the room was palpable, filled with the excitement of young minds tackling the complex challenges.
Dr Aaron Wong, AI Engineering Manager at 4AI Systems, has been involved in coordinating the event since its inception 15 years ago. Joining him from the 4AI Systems team were eight dedicated volunteers who helped the competition run smoothly.
Dr Wong said, “It was a thrilling day for the 4AI Systems team, as we were on the ground as referees and judges. I felt a rush of adrenaline refereeing the Simple Simon and Standard Soccer games, which were absolutely amazing to watch.
“It was truly exciting to see the next generation of technologists in action. These talented students represent the future of STEM and we hope to see many of them venture into the field. We can’t wait to see what these students accomplish next – maybe 4AI Systems will have some future employees!”
Thank you to the University of Newcastle for their support in providing the incredible Great Hall as the venue. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this fantastic day. We hope to see you all again in 2026!
